GREEN SPRINGS, Ohio - A 22-year-old Green Springs man was in a Toledo hospital yesterday after incurring a head injury in a motorcycle crash Sunday evening, authorities said.

Jared Alloway was airlifted to the University of Toledo Medical Center, the former Medical College of Ohio Hospital, with severe head trauma, troopers at the Ohio Highway Patrol's Fremont post said. An update on his condition was not available.

Highway patrol Sgt. Brett Gockstetter said Mr. Alloway was westbound on Euclid Street west of Kansas Street in the Seneca County section of the village of Green Springs about 7:40 p.m. Sunday when he lost control of the motorcycle and drove off the north side of the street.

The motorcycle struck a tree, throwing Mr. Alloway from the bike. Mr. Alloway, who was not wearing a helmet, then struck a mailbox post and came to rest in the street, troopers said.

Witnesses told police Mr. Alloway was driving at high speed up and down the street, sometimes riding on one wheel, before the crash. Alcohol was a factor in the crash, Sergeant Gockstetter said.

The crash remained under investigation last night, and unspecified charges are pending, the sergeant said.
