Perrysburg set to test sanitary sewer system

8/8/2008

The city of Perrysburg will smoke-test its sanitary sewer system for three to five weeks, beginning Monday.

Testing will be conducted only in the Three Meadows area, said Gary Haydel, superintendent of the city s water pollution control division. During that time, residents could notice smoke outdoors or in their homes.

During the tests, residents are encouraged to ensure all indoor sewage traps are filled with water by pouring water in all floor drains and sinks for one minute.

The city will use nontoxic, nonstaining smoke to test the sanitary sewer system for weaknesses.

Neighborhood residents wet-basement complaints prompted the tests.

The Three Meadows area is bordered by I-75, Sandusky Street, Simmons Road, and East Boundary Street. Residents in the affected area will be notified of the testing with a flyer hung on door handles, Mr. Haydel said.
