GREEN SPRINGS, Ohio - A Fremont couple were hurt seriously yesterday when their car collided with a van at State Rts. 228 and 101 in Seneca County's Adams Township, authorities said.

The driver, Carmen Hofelich-Brown, 90, was in fair condition at University of Toledo Medical Center, the former Medical College of Ohio Hospital, where her husband and passenger, Fred Brown, whose age was not available, was in serious condition.

Both were flown to the hospital following the 2:30 p.m. crash.

Mrs. Hofelich-Brown was driving northwest on Route 228 when she failed to stop for a stop sign at Route 101, Ohio Highway Patrol Trooper Joe Wentworth said.

Her car was struck by a van southbound on Route 101 driven by Timothy Brutsche, 52, of Clyde.

Both vehicles went off the intersection's northwest side. Mr. Brutsche's van struck a highway sign post. The Browns struck a 3-foot-wide, 2-foot-tall rock that kept their car from going into a pond.

No citations were issued.
