The University of Toledo will not pursue purchasing the United Way building, President Dr. Lloyd Jacobs announced Friday afternoon after he and a dozen UT staffers toured the downtown property.

The United Way announced last week it plans to build a new structure and tear down its current property because of the extensive and costly renovations that would be required to stay.

Though he said he admired the "interesting and beautiful" structure, Dr. Jacobs said the building would need too much renovation to be usable for the university.

It had been suggested as a possible location for UT s law school.
