DEADLINE NOW

8/22/2008

The Democratic National Convention kicks off Monday in Denver and will feature, for the first time, the nomination of an African-American as the party's choice for president of the United States.

Discussing the historic event on this week's Deadline Now are Gerry Bazer, the retired dean of arts and sciences at Owens Community College, and Tom Troy, The Blade's politics writer, who will travel to Denver to cover the convention.

The two and host Jack Lessenberry, The Blade's ombudsman, also will talk about what role Ohio and Michigan will play in this fall's race for the presidency and what to expect from the Republican National Convention, which will be held the following week in St. Paul.

Deadline Now will be broadcast at 8:30 tonight and at 2:30 a.m. tomorrow on WGTE-TV, Channel 30.
