Two of three southbound lanes will be closed on I-75 south ofMonroe tomorrow while the Michigan Department of Transportation replaces overhead signs.

Stay away from southbound I-75 between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. The work area will be south of LaPlaisance Road (Exit 11), but backups are likely to stretch past Monroe, especially from mid-morning on. Use Telegraph Road instead. Northbound I-75 won t be affected.

Reader J.P. Smith inquired about some recently installed Exit signs at the I-475 junction with I-75 in Toledo that don t seem to stay facing traffic for very long. According to the Ohio Department of Transportation, the new signs are designed to break away if struck by a vehicle, but that breakaway mechanism includes pins that apparently don t hold up too well if the wind strikes the sign from certain angles. ODOT says it is working on the problem.

Our advice, as always, is to be in the proper lane well before any exit so you don t have to make any last minute lane-hops, and know where you re going.

U.S. 24 is expected to reopen tomorrow in eastern Henry County after pavement reconstruction at the Indiana & Ohio Railroad underpass near State Rt. 109. Flag zones will continue to affect U.S. 24 on weekdays between Route 109 and Waterville during pavement repairs.

In Ottawa County, State Rt. 19 is scheduled to reopen today following completion of culvert work between State Rts. 2 and 163.
