Seneca County declares state of emergency

9/16/2008

TIFFIN Seneca County commissioners yesterday declared a state of emergency so that crews could begin clearing away downed trees and other debris from Sunday s wind storm.

More than 1,500 homes in Seneca County remained without power yesterday, according to American Electric Power, which also reported scattered outages in Allen, Hancock, Hardin, Paulding, Putnam, Sandusky, Van Wert, and Wyandot counties.

Commissioner Dave Sauber said the emergency declaration authorizes the Ottawa-Sandusky-Seneca Solid Waste District to chip tree limbs.

Seneca was one of 11 counties in the state and the only one in northwest Ohio to declare states of emergency after Sunday s storm.
