ESPN Radio puts Defiance College in limelight

DEFIANCE The Defiance College football team found itself in the national spotlight yesterday after being selected as the unknown game of the week by ESPN Radio s Mike and Mike in the Morning.

The show s hosts, Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic previewed the game between Defiance and Trine, formerly Tri-State University of Angola, Ind., before having a competition to see who could name the game. Nominations from fans included, The Black Swamp Swashbuckle, The Storm versus the Swarm, Unrest in the Midwest, The Rumble in the Hive, and The Better than the Bengals Football Extravaganza. After reviewing all of the choices, the hosts gave the nod to The Clash of Mother Nature s Wrath.

The game-naming feature had its genesis with last week s Ohio State-USC game, hyped as The Collision at the Coliseum. Both men said it would be tougher to name a lesser-known game.

Mike and Mike will recap the game on the Monday segment with video highlights and an interview with the head coach from the winning team. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. at Coressel Stadium.
