Texas Tech stuns Longhorns

LUBBOCK, Texas - Graham Harrell fired a 28-yard touchdown pass to Michael Crabtree with one second left and No. 6 Texas Tech stunned No. 1 Texas 39-33 last night in a wild shootout.

Texas had stormed back from a 19-0 deficit to take a 33-32 lead when Vondrell McGee scored on a four-yard run with 1:29 left in the fourth.

Harrell drove the Red Raiders to the touchdown in six plays, slinging the long pass to Crabtree, who broke the tackle of Curtis Brown near the sideline, kept his balance and scooted the last five yards for a score. If he had been tackled inbounds, the clock likely would have run out.

Thousands of Texas Tech fans poured onto the field and had to be sent off while the play was under review.

Once the fans were chased off the field and Tech kicked the extra point, the Red Raiders were penalized and forced to kick off from their own 7-yard line.

When Texas couldn't pull of a miracle kickoff return, the fans ran back on the field to celebrate the biggest win in Texas Tech history.

HUNTSVILLE, Texas - Forget Colt McCoy and Graham Harrell. Neither of those Texas quarterbacks - nor anyone else - ever put up numbers like Stephen F. Austin's Jeremy Moses did yesterday.

In just his 14th career start, Moses threw an NCAA record-breaking 57 completions and 85 pass attempts, finishing with 501 yards and four touchdowns, in a 34-31 double-overtime loss to Sam Houston State.

Moses, a sophomore, surpassed Drew Brees' former college football record of 83 attempts for Purdue in a 1998 loss to Wisconsin.

He also broke the former record of 56 completions set in 1996 by Wayne State's Jarrod DeGeorgia.

"I guess if you're going to lose, you might as well set some records," said Moses, who completed passes to 11 different receivers.

Moses is only the fourth NCAA quarterback to surpass 80 pass attempts in a game. His final attempt fell incomplete on fourth-and-20 in the second overtime, and Sam Houston State kicked the winning field goal on the next possession.

Stephen F. Austin ran 116 plays, nearly double the number of snaps by the Bearkats. But Sam Houston State scored quickly on three long touchdown passes by former Oklahoma quarterback Rhett Bomar.
