4/21/2009The workplace is changing. Employees are being asked to do more with less in an increasingly high-tech environment. But what about company owners? Company managers? The individuals charged with leading those employees and their businesses through these difficult times?
Since its inception in 2002, the Lourdes College Master of Organizational Leadership (MOL) program has caught the attention of professionals throughout Northwest Ohio. As the only graduate program of its kind in the region, those seeking an advanced degree in leadership are coming to Lourdes College.
Lourdes Master of Organizational Leadership program provides the opportunity to gain the knowledge and expertise needed to work in leadership positions spanning a variety of fields including business, non-profit, medical and health, government and more.
Over 80% of Lourdes MOL graduates serve in leadership positions throughout Northwest Ohio, notes Dr. Keith Schlender, Dean of the Graduate School. This means that our graduates are not only choosing to remain in the area, but also that they are finding success and actively contributing to the economic impact of the region.
Bruce Klinger ( 08 MOL) currently serves as Managing Partner of Northwestern Mutual Financial Network of Toledo. Of his experience in the graduate program, Bruce notes that he developed meaningful and appropriate skills for his line of work. I benefitted from sharing my life with bright and talented classmates and a professional caring college staff.
David Seeger ( 05 MOL) is President and CEO of the Great Lakes Credit union and owner of Seeger Consulting Service, LLC. The program met my needs and helped me develop interpersonal skills as they relate to leadership, says David. I have gained a tremendous amount personally and professionally. Because of the MOL, I am a better leader today.
MOL student Karen Everage is also leading the way since enrolling in the graduate program. As a non-profit entrepreneur, Karen is founder and Director of the Toledo Restaurant Training Center (TRTC). I came up with the concept from listening to friends and associates who were either restaurant owners or food service professionals working in the industry. They all seemed to have the same concerns about having access to educated and knowledgeable employees who can assist them in growing their businesses. I understood their concerns and wanted to help so I developed the TRTC.
Located inside the picturesque Park Lane building in Toledo, the TRTC offers quality training programs for aspiring culinary professionals, restaurant owners, restaurant managers, and others involved in the restaurant industry.
The MOL program provided me with insight into the characteristics and traits of an effective leader, and how to formulate leadership strategies for developing and growing a business.
Traditionally, Lourdes has offered its Master of Organizational Leadership program to approximately 50 students in 3 cohorts per year. Each cohort meets on Lourdes campus for weekly instruction. In an effort to expand the program and make it more available to those who cannot attend weekly classes, the College will convert one of its cohorts to a new hybrid MOL program in fall 2009.
The hybrid will feature bi-weekly Saturday classes as well as online instruction.
We designed the MOL hybrid so that it would meet the needs of our residents who are not able to attend weekly classes due to location or commitments with work, family or community, offers Keith Ramsdell, Director of Graduate Admissions. Through Lourdes new program, we hope that a larger population will now have the ability to earn a Master s degree with ease.
