ELYRIA, Ohio — The Federal Aviation Administration says a small plane crashed as it approached the Cleveland area from Gainesville, Fla., killing three people.

FAA spokeswoman Elizabeth Isham Cory said the four-passenger plane was approaching the Lorain County Regional Airport in Elyria shortly after 2 p.m. Monday when it crashed.

The plane, a Mitsubishi MU-2B-60, reportedly nose-dived into the ground.

Isham Cory says the FAA is investigating and the National Transportation Safety Board will lead the inquiry.

An FAA database shows that the multiengine turboprop plane is owned by Mitts Corp. of Gainesville.
