    Shayna Hague, a student at Northwood High School, and Joseph Boyle, Jr., a teacher at Rogers High School, were named recipients of the BCSN Student and Teacher Award at the fourth annual Scholarship Awards dinner hosted by BCSN at the Pinnacle.

    The Student of the Year Scholarship is worth a minimum of $16,000, which can be applied towards tuition, room and board (on campus), books and fees. The renewable scholarship will be awarded in increments of $4,000 annually, provided the student maintains a 3.0 cumulative G.P.A. and full-time status.

    Local sponsors of the program include The Andersons, Banner Mattress & Furniture, Corner Dental, Regency Hospital of Toledo and Stautzenberger College.

    Miss Hague will go to Capital University in Columbus.

    The Buckeye CableSystem, BCSN Student of the Year program is administered by Toledo Community Foundation, and recognizes select college-bound seniors who will be attending an accredited school of higher education in the United States in the fall of 2010.

    Each student of the month qualifies for a $1,500 scholarship to an accredited school of higher education in the United States. The local students recommended for the award: Christine Carlo, Clay High School; Cristina Casano, Toledo Early College High School; Nicholas Francis, Toledo Technology Academy; Scott McGorty, Bowsher High School; Gary Strain, Rogers High School; Courtney Tipton, Sylvania Northview, and Jangus Whitner, Maumee Valley Country Day School.

    The Teacher of the Year will receive a $1,000 cash award, a gift for their classroom - value of up to $1,500 - and a $10,000 endowed scholarship fund in their name from which one scholarship will be awarded through the school on an annual basis in perpetuity. Local sponsors include Lock-it-Up Self Storage, Tim Hortons, and YMCA/JCC of Greater Toledo.

    The remainder of the local recommend teachers: Heather Dansack, Maumee High School; Anna Diekman, Clay High School; Ann Hale, Maumee High School; Theresa Paredes, Woodward High School; Walter Ralph, Clay High School; Robert Steinline, Springfield High School, and Lynn Stoner, Start High School.
