Myers picked as first TRAC commissioner
8/25/2010The newly-formed Three Rivers Athletic Conference, which will include seven current City League member schools when it begins play in the 2011-12 school year, has selected Ken Myers as its first commissioner.
Myers' two-year term will begin immediately, according to Fremont Ross principal and TRAC president Jose Hernandez, who made the announcement Tuesday.
"The committee was very fortunate to have excellent candidates for the commissioner's position," Hernandez said. "We are enthusiastic about the leadership and organization skills that Ken brings to the job. We anticipate a smooth inaugural season next year."
Myers, 58, is a graduate of St. Clairsville High School in eastern Ohio, and of Morehead State University in Kentucky. He was director of public safety and public services in Fremont for 17 years before retiring last year.
"I'm very excited," said Myers, who resides in Fremont. "I think it has the makings of an excellent conference. The schools involved are very solid educational institutions - academically, athletically and all the way around. I'm going to work for people who have a real vision of what they want to see in a conference."
Myers has worked as a game official, and held advisory positions with the Ohio High School Athletic Association. He is currently an associate commissioner with the Northern Ohio League, serving as league representative to the OHSAA's statewide quarterly commissioners meetings.
"Obviously Ross and Findlay and Lima have been bouncing around over the years trying to figure out someplace to fit in and be solid," Myers said. "And, with the seven [Toledo area] schools, you can't ask for better schools to be affiliated with. It's got the makings of being an excellent conference. We've a got a lot of work to do over the next few years, but I'm very excited about it."
The inaugural TRAC membership includes exiting CL entries Central Catholic, Clay, Notre Dame, St. Francis de Sales, St. John's Jesuit, St. Ursula and Whitmer, plus Findlay, Fremont Ross and Lima Senior from the Greater Buckeye Conference, which will no longer exist following the 2010-11 school year.
