NLL: Genoa routs Rossford behind Nutter, Bryer

GENOA - Kyle Nutter led Genoa's powerful ground game, churning out 124 yards rushing and two scores as the Comets won their 30th consecutive regular-season game by opening the season with a 57-6 victory over Rossford Friday night.

Genoa quarterback Josh Bryer threw for 116 yards and two scores, connecting with Derek Allgier on both touchdowns. Allgier tallied on a 41-yard run and a 15-yarder.

All of the Comets' rushing scores came on short distance as Nutter plowed in from 3 and 2 yards. Also scoring short-yardage TDs were Brandon Roberts (2 yards), Zach Lopez (2 yards), Nick Mortensen (3 yards), and Ryan Espinoza (4 yards).

Rossford's Ian Stolar scored on an 88-yard kickoff return late in the game.

Genoa finished with 453 total yards which included 337 rushing yards, while the Comets defense held Rossford to 74 total yards of offense.

Oak Harbor 21, Springfield 12

OAK HARBOR - Jake Scott scored two touchdowns and carried the ball 22 times for 106 yards for Oak Harbor.

Scott opened the scoring with a 30-yard return of a fumble in the first quarter. After Springfield had closed to within two points in the fourth quarter, Kyle Mincheff clinched the Oak Harbor victory with a three-yard touchdown run.

Alex Grogg scored both Springfield touchdowns on short runs.

Grogg finished with 117 yards in 22 carries.

Springfield had 15 first downs and 273 total yards to Oak Harbor's 11 first downs and 198 total yards.
