TAAC: Ottawa Hills holds off Gibsonburg rally; Delta slips past TC

Taylor Savage scored two touchdowns, including an 83-yard kickoff return as Ottawa Hills held off a late Gibsonburg charge to open the season with a 32-28 victory on Friday.

J.J. Buckey rushed for 73 yards on 10 carries to lead the host Green Bears. Gibsonburg racked up 243 yards of offense but trailed 17-0 at halftime.

All of the Golden Bears' points came in the second half.

Andy Ritter's 94-yard kickoff return with 7:10 left pulled Gibsonburg to within 32-21, and Nick Black scored a touchdown with two minutes left. Black finished with 79 yards on 12 carries.

Gibsonburg's Jordan Jahna finished 6 of 10 for 106 yards, finiding receiver Vinec Kirsch seven times for 86 yards, but the Golden Bears turned the ball over five times.

Delta 43, Toledo Christian 42

Delta scored 29-unanswered points in the fourth quarter, capped by a two-point conversion run by Eric Puehler with one second remaining.

Puehler rushed 23 times for 153 yards and two touchdowns, and quarterback Drew Salsbury completed 7 of 12 passes for 142 yards and two TDs.

TC's Nick Rightnowar was 22 of 29 passing for 378 yards and six touchdowns. Four of those scores went to David Westmeyer, who caught five passes for 148 yards. Sam Ivan caught eight passes for 91 yards.

TC's Graham Miller ran the ball 16 times for 78 yards.

Fremont St. Joseph 62, Cardinal Stritch 6

FREMONT - Zak Bowman rushed for five touchdowns as Fremont St. Joseph rolled.

Bowman totaled 120 yards on 12 carries and scored on runs of 31, 1, 8, 48, and 2 yards. Mitchell Gonya added 76 yards and a score on five carries for the Crimson Streaks.

Nate Long's 102-yard interception return put FSJ ahead 48-6 in the fourth quarter.

Cardinal Stritch scored its only points on a 10-yard TD run by Tim Langlois that cut the deficit to 20-6 in the second quarter.

Edon 34, Antwerp 14

ANTWERP - Shannon Geren ran for 272 yards and four touchdowns on 27 carries to lead the Bombers to the road victory.

Teammate Zach Hug added 111 yards and another score on 12 runs as Edon finished with 402 rushing yards; the Bombers were 0-for-6 on pass attempts.

Edgerton 41, Hilltop 0

EDGERTON - The Bulldogs' Brody Fiegal threw for five touchdowns to lead his team to the home victory.

Fiegal completed 20-of-27 passes for 267 yards while added 49 rushing yards as Edgerton finished with 397 yards of total offense.

Meanwhile the Bulldog defense limited the Cadels to just 156 yards of total offense to earn the shutout.
