City League roundup: Northview, Perrysburg gain victories in final seconds

Tyler Schinharl hauled in a 45-yard touchdown pass from Brandyn Hall with 10 seconds remaining to give Northview a 14-7 victory Friday night over visiting Waite.

Northview (1-1) began the four-play drive with 30 seconds left from its own 35.

Following a scoreless first half for both teams, Northview's Addison Hirschfeld ran in from one yard out in the third quarter to put the Wildcats ahead 7-0.

For Waite (0-2), Kevin Carter scored on a six-yard pass from Michael Kachmarik. Carter rushed for 83 yards on 20 carries.

Perrysburg 21, Clay 14

At Clay, Matt Slocum hooked up with Jerrad Mantos for a 20-yard touchdown with eight seconds left to give Perrysburg the win.

Slocum was 13 of 24 passing for 150 yards and three touchdowns. He also hooked up for scores with Micah Carter (20 yards) and Mike Caskey (38 yards.

Following the go-ahead TD, Perrysburg added a safety.

For Clay, Ross Achter was 8 of 13 passing for 87 yards. He scored the Eagles' first TD on a 16-yard run to make the game 7-7.

Bobby Hoffman added a 3-yard TD run for Clay in the fourth quarter.

Anthony Wayne 23, Start 20

Dylon Buchs rushed for 84 yards including a 36-yard touchdown for the Generals (1-1).

Hunter Lonseth picked up a Start fumble following a sack in the second quarter and took it to the end zone to give Anthony Wayne the lead and Tyler Deye returned an interception 51 yards for a score.

Silas McCall scored on a 30-yard punt return for Start (0-2), while Chris Black reached the end zone on a 29-yard pass from Tyler Ritter, who threw for 135 yards. Deonte Rozier scored on a five-yard run for the Spartans.

St. Francis 17, Findlay 13

At Waite, Jake Wawrzyniak rushed for 112 yards on 28 carries and Justin Chandler added 50 more on the ground for St. Francis.

The Knights rushed for 216 yards and defensively got interceptions from Scott Wawrzyniak and Jared Jefferson.

After a scoreless first quarter, St. Francis jumped out to a 10-0 lead thanks to a 27-yard field goal by Mike McGowen and later a 1 yard run by Andy Meinert. Findlay responded with a Paul Cosiano touchdown. Jake Wawrzynaik then added his touchdown to make it 17-7 in the third quarter. Cosiano would score again for Findlay to cut the lead down to 17-13.

Central Catholic 56, Bishop Timon St. Jude 6

Central Catholic dominated, pounding out 354 yards rushing while holding visiting Bishop Timon St. Jude of Buffalo to 43 yards in total offense.

Calebb Goings led the Central attack with 125 yards rushing and one touchdown

Quarterback Joey Schneider was 5 for 11 with a touchdown pass to Logan Lorenzen. Schneider also scored on a 19-yard run.

David Weinbrecht had a 65-yard kickoff return for a score and Amir Edwards, Cedric Gray and Ryan Hanenkrath each had scoring runs.

Springfield 30, Bowsher 6

The host Blue Devils compiled 243 yards with Jared Williams gaining 76 yards on just four carries and Denrick Milletti adding 66 on eight carries.

Alexander also returned an interception 39 yards for Springfield's first touchdown. The Devils got on the board first after a snap sailed out of the back of the end zone during a Bowsher punt.

Williams added a 48-yard touchdown run to make it 16-0.

Miletti capped the scoring with a 20 yard run of his own.

Bowsher's DiJon Tucker picked up 81 yards on 22 carries.
