HILLSDALE, Mich. - A 24-year-old woman was killed Wednesday while her 3-year-old daughter escaped uninjured when their car and an oncoming truck collided in Hillsdale County's Wheatland Township.

Heather Billy of Osseo, Mich., was pronounced dead at the scene, sheriff's deputies said. Her daughter, whose name was not released, was treated at the Hillsdale Community Health Center and released to relatives.

Deputies said the sheriff's office received a call about 8:15 a.m. reporting a person trapped in a vehicle on Jerome Road near Wood Road in Wheatland Township. Deputies said they found Ms. Billy's southbound car had collided with a northbound truck driven by Robert Mattson, 47, of Hillsdale.

Ms. Billy was thrown from her car, which rolled over and came to rest on top of her. Her daughter remained in a child seat in the rear of the car. Mr. Mattson, whose truck was pulling a flatbed trailer loaded with scaffolding, was not hurt.

The Lucas County Coroner's Office will conduct an autopsy, deputies said.
