Haddad certified to run for Lucas County commissioner

Kevin Haddad was certified to run for Lucas County commissioner today after the Lucas County Board of Elections overcame legal questions and approved his petitions to be on the ballot in November.

Mr. Haddad, 56, a hairdresser, is a Republican member of the Sylvania Township Board of Trustees, but is running as an independent for the county commission. He said he disagrees with the policies of Republican Gov. John Kasich.

The elections board certified Mr. Haddad’s petitions more than a week before the deadline in state law, but after a delay to determine whether a missing address on one of his petitions invalidated the petition. The Ohio Secretary of State ruled that it did not.

Mr. Haddad will face incumbent Democrat Tina Skeldon Wozniak and her Republican opponent Jonathan Anderson in the Nov. 6 general election.

Mr. Haddad blamed “favoritism” by the Republicans and Democrats on the election board for the delay and called for an independent to be added to the two Republicans and two Democrats on the board.

Board members Jon Stainbrook, a Republican, and Ron Rothenbuhler, a Democrat, said they were doing their duty to ensure that Mr. Haddad’s petitions were valid, not to drag out the process.
