A central Toledo house was destroyed by an overnight fire.

Firefighters called to 955 Pinewood Ave. at 3:32 a.m. saw heavy fire on the second floor upon their arrival and within about 15 minutes of the call the roof partially collapsed, according to Toledo Fire Lt. Brian Matuszynski.

The fire was under control by 4:25 a.m. and streets around the blaze reopened after 5 a.m..

It was not immediately clear whether the house was occupied and an estimate of the loss has not yet been figured. The Lucas County auditor values the property at $20,300 and lists Alexicia C. Sims as the owner. Auditor's records say the three-bedroom house was built in 1892.

About 23 firefighters responded to the blaze and an arson investigator was called.

Smoke from the fire spread for blocks into the downtown area.
