HILLSDALE - A 20-year-old from South Carolina was pronounced dead at the scene of a one-vehicle, rollover crash in Hillsdale County on Saturday evening, according to the Hillsdale County sheriff's office.

Dacoda James Hetherington of Rock Hill, S.C., the front-seat passenger, was thrown from the vehicle, according to the sheriff's office.

The driver, Joseph Edward Pawliski, 19, of Lakeland, Fla., according to the sheriff's office, was taken to Hillsdale Community Health Center. A hospital supervisor declined to give any information.

Pawliski was driving a sport utility vehicle west on Pleasant Lane, a private drive near Pleasant Lake in central Hillsdale County between Hillsdale and Osseo. He was three-tenths of a mile east of Doty Road in Jefferson Township when he lost control of the vehicle, which went off the south edge of the roadway and rolled over shortly before 7 p.m., according to the sheriff's office.

Neither the driver nor the passenger wore seat belts.

An investigator from the Michigan State Police crash reconstruction unit assisted deputies.
