St. John's Heintschel gets 600th win; Generals silence Maumee

Ed Heintschel collected his 600th career coaching victory Friday night before a sold-out home crowd of more than 1,800, as St. John’s Jesuit captured a 68-56 win over Central Catholic in Three Rivers Athletic Conference boys basketball.
Guards Austin Gardner and Anthony Glover paced the ninth-ranked Titans with 24 and 17 points, respectively, and 6-foot-8 Ohio State-bound senior forward Marc Loving added 11 points and 11 rebounds as St. John’s moved to 11-3 overall and 6-1 in the TRAC.
“I’m glad it’s over,” Heintschel said of the attention surrounding win No. 600. “The school did some nice things for me this week. It’s a milestone, but I don’t know that it’s any more important than some other big wins we’ve had along the way." READ MORE PHOTO GALLERY: St. John's vs. CCHS
Donnal, Generals silence Maumee in 64-54 win
Anthony Wayne senior Mark Donnal heard the early negative chants from the Maumee student section and quickly silenced them.
Donnal turned the “Overrated!” shouts from the Panther fans into a “You can't stop him!” from the General faithful. The 6-foot-10 senior center dominated in all facets of Anthony Wayne's 64-54 win against visiting Maumee on Friday night in a key Northern Lakes League game.
Donnal finished with a double-double to help Anthony Wayne stay on top in the league. At the midpoint of the NLL season, the Generals are tied with Perrysburg for first place. Both are 6-1. READ MORE
Lamb, Mules overcome turnovers to stop Monroe
MONROE — Bedford coach Nick Lowe walked off the basketball court Friday night at Monroe High not exactly pleased with what he had just witnessed.
Bedford turned the ball over 25 times to Monroe in a Southeastern Conference showdown.
A thing of beauty it wasn't. Yet, the Kicking Mules still came out unscathed and with a decisive 58-36 victory against the Trojans.
"In a rivalry game like this it's going to get physical and it's going to get chippy," Lowe said. "We weren't as precise as we'd like to be, but we're leaving with a 22-point win. We'll get better."
No one performed any better than 6-foot-6 senior Jackson Lamb, who seemed to be able to do whatever he wanted against the Trojans. He scored a game-high 24 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and blocked four shots for the Mules, who improved to 8-0 overall and 3-0 in the SEC. READ MORE
