Pedestrian killed on Telegraph Road in Monroe County

MONROE - A pedestrian from Newport, Mich., died after he was struck by a sport utility vehicle on North Telegraph Road in Frenchtown Township on Thursday evening, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

Timothy F. Walz, 46, was pronounced dead at the scene just south of Buhl Road shortly before 9 p.m., according to the sheriff's office.

Sheriff's deputies reported that they believe Mr. Walz, who was wearing dark clothing, was attempting to cross the road from the parking lot of the Gravel Pit Bar to the Kimberly Estates Mobile Home Park on the west side of North Telegraph Road.

He was struck by an SUV driven by Larry D. Reaume, 63, of Monroe who was southbound on North Telegraph, according to the sheriff's office.

The crash remains under investigation. Witnesses and anyone with more information are asked to call the sheriff's office at 734-240-7565.
