Firefighters in Oregon are battling a rare twin house fire this morning.

Crews were dispatched to 6427 Lakeway St. at 2:48 a.m., according to the city's central dispatch unit. Two residents of that home were awakened by the fire and escaped safely.

They ran next door to 6433 Lakeway and roused three occupants there. In a matter of minutes the fire jumped to 6433, destroying a car. No injuries were reported, and everyone got out safely. Lakeway is east of Stadium Road and north of Maumee Bay State Park.

Officials said they do not believe the fire was related to the severe weather passing through. Because of the sheer magnitude of the fire, off-duty firefighters were summoned to help. The cause is being investigated.
