    Whitmer girls, Southview boys best competition for district wins

    Kaitlyn Barber took a lead role in Whitmer’s efforts to win the girls championship at the Division I district track and field meet Saturday at St. Francis de Sales. She placed first in the pole vault by clearing 11 feet, 6 inches, which matched the meet record set by former Panthers pole vault standout Courtney Siebenaller back in 2008. Southview and senior sprinter Malcolm Johnson ran away from the field en route to the Cougars claiming their first outright district championship.     Toledo Christian, Evergreen girls earn titles

    Toledo Christian claimed its fourth district crown in a row on Saturday in one of two Division III district girls meets held at Fremont Ross.TC picked up three individual titles, setting the stage for what should be a gripping regional this week when the Eagles head to Tiffin trying to take down favorite Tinora.Evergreen, with eight of its 11 team members making the finals, won the other girls title, the school’s first since 1985.     Surprising Southview beats St. Francis

    The team that couldn’t seem to hit suddenly is, and the timing couldn’t be better for Southview. The Cougars (17-9) jumped out early on defending Division I district baseball champion St. Francis de Sales on Saturday at Mercy Field and rolled to an 8-3 victory in a district final. Southview junior left-handed pitcher Tyler Stambaugh gave the Cougars their third straight solid start in the tourney, yielding just three hits and one run to the Knights before exiting after six innings on top 8-1.     Generals top BG to take district crown

    Aaron Stark pitched three innings of nearly perfect relief to lead Anthony Wayne to a 5-2 victory over Bowling Green in a Division I district championship at Carter Park. Anthony Wayne (19-8) advances to the regional for the first time since 2009 and will face Southview in a semifinals at 5 p.m. Thursday at Bowling Green State University’s Stellar Field.     Lake holds off Archbold rally to claim district crown

    Lake (26-3) relied on a five-run burst spurred by the bottom of their order, five-plus solid innings from starter Todd Walters, and a clutch relief appearance by Cody Witt to hold off Archbold 6-4 and clinch their second district title in three years. They will play Huron in a regional semifinal game Thursday at Elida High School.     Central Catholic’s Dugan Delp wins district singles crown

    Central Catholic senior Dugan Delp is heading back to the Division I state tennis tournament, knocking off Findlay junior Reid Teatsorth 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 to capture the district singles title Saturday at Bowling Green State University’s Keefe Courts. Delp beat Adam Zychowicz of St. John’s 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 in the semifinals.
