Southview continues run with tough 3-1 win over Anthony Wayne

BOWLING GREEN — The Cinderella ride of the Southview baseball team continues into today’s Division I regional championship game. Again using the formula of superb pitching, errorless defense, timely hitting, and a break or two, the Cougars took a 3-1 victory over Northern Lakes League foe Anthony Wayne in a regional semifinal Thursday at Bowling Green’s Steller Field. Easy-going Bryan gets another close win

TIFFIN — This baseball postseason is turning into a continuous party for Bryan, and no one is ready to pull the plug. The Golden Bears clapped in unison, made fun gestures, and dangled silly ornaments in their dugout Thursday to conjure positive vibes in their first regional appearance in 15 years.

Patrick Henry rolls; Toledo Christian falls in regional semis

HAMLER, Ohio — The Patrick Henry baseball team pulled within one game Thursday of a familiar trip south. But first, the Patriots must nudge aside a program that knows the way to the state tournament in Columbus like few others. Patrick Henry and Tinora will meet at 5 p.m. in today‘s Division IV regional final after both romped to stress-free semifinal wins, with the host Patriots thumping McComb 13-2 and the Rams taking down Toledo Christian 12-1 in five innings.

Lake struggles to get key hits in 3-2 loss to Huron

ELIDA, Ohio — Lake was unable to overcome its inability to collect a key hit Thursday in a Division III regional baseball semifinal at Elida High School. The Flyers left 10 runners on base, including eight in scoring position, as Huron posted a 3-2 win.

SOFTBALL

Bowsher claims City championship

The Bowsher softball team captured the City League championship Thursday after their starting pitcher did something none of the Rogers Rams had seen before.

Throw a changeup. Alexa Boisselle was dominant on the mound for the Rebels, thanks in large part to her changeup that fooled hitters left and right.

Springfield loses lead, then game

After Springfield squandered an 11-run cushion to suffer another stunning and unfathomable loss on Thursday, the Blue Devils sure seem cursed.

Springfield (23-4) was two outs away from ending a Division I softball regional semifinal by the mercy rule as the Blue Devils held a seemingly insurmountable 11-0 lead over Brecksville-Broadview Heights (29-2) in the fifth inning.

Fowls stars on the mound and at plate as Maumee pulls upset

Maumee senior pitcher Sam Fowls threw a complete-game one hitter and hit a two-run home run to lead the Panthers to a 4-1 upset of powerhouse LaGrange Keystone in a Division II regional semifinal on Thursday.
