Alan Thompson and his long-distance bike: "Before I get too old, I wanted to do something meaningful", says Thompson. Thompson, 65, who will be riding the perimeter off the United States, at his home in Toledo on Thursday. Thompson plans on leaving August 17th on this 10-month fundraising effort to benefit Habitat for Humanity and Save the Children. He will be riding a Koga Miyata touring bike with about 100 pounds of gear on it. This is the same bike he rode in 2005 when he traveled the Lewis and Clark Trail (although he did not pull a trailer in '05).
