Sylvania Area Historical Society board member Mimi Malcolm inspects the inscription on a tombstone while talking about the Sylvania Association Cemetery as she walks through the area on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2012. When she started doing genealogical research in 1995 Malcolm realized she has ties to several of the founding families in the Sylvania area.

General David White, the co-founder of Sylvania, is buried in the Sylvania Association in Sylvania. Many members of the area's founding families are laid to rest in the cemetery, though city and church records don't always match up as to who is buried where.
