UT Women in Science Day

Fifty-seven area girls participated the second annual Women in Science Day of Meetings, WISDOM, held April 6, 2011, at the University of Toledo. The event was hosted by the Catharine S. Edith Kippenham, associate lecturer with the Department of Chemistry, lights a methane bubble in the hand of Mary Kate Hafemann, a chemistry teacher at Ottawa Hills High School. The chemistry demonstration showed local high school girls how Hafemann's hand, soaked in soap and water, was unharmed as the methane gas encased in the bubbles quickly burned out.
