Hearing is rescheduled in letter carrier's assault

11/2/2000

A teenager charged with beating a U.S. Postal Service letter carrier Sept. 26 and two teenagers accused of assaulting another man about 15 minutes later the same day will have to wait a little longer to learn whether they will face trial as adults.

The first hearing in Lucas County Juvenile Court on the prosecutor's request to have the boys sent to Lucas County Common Pleas Court was rescheduled from yesterday to Nov. 15. It was the second time the hearing has been continued.

Kenneth Britton, 16, of Maplewood Avenue, is charged in the assault on letter carrier Sam Burzynski, 53, in the Brand Whitlock Homes. He and two other teens, Paris Jamison, 16, of Angelbrook Court, and Deshawn Snow, 17, of Erie Street, are charged with the assault on Brian Dotson, a 28-year-old Cardinal Chemical employee. The teenagers are being held in the Child Study Institute.

Also charged in the letter carrier beating was Terrance Belle, 18, of Bronson Avenue. He and another teen, Michael Gilbert, 18, of Ashwood Avenue, also were charged with the assault on Mr. Dotson. They are being held in the Lucas County jail and are scheduled for pre-trial hearings Nov. 20 in Common Pleas Court.
