A Toledo man accused of stealing a car, taking a woman's purse, and leading police on a chase that ended in an accident and foot chase Friday was ordered held in the Lucas County jail in lieu of $25,000 bond during his arraignment yesterday.

William D. Gregory, 42, of 2008 Upton Ave., was ordered held in the jail by Judge Francis X. Gorman in Toledo Municipal Court. Police charged him with aggravated vehicular assault, robbery, theft, fleeing and eluding, and misdemeanor traffic offenses.

About 7:45 a.m. Friday, a man stole a woman's car from the 1800 block of Palmwood Avenue. Fifteen minutes later, the man snatched an 81-year-old South Toledo woman's purse as she was walking into Sandy's Beauty Shoppe on Airport Highway near Apple Avenue, police said.

The man led police on a chase, running several stop signs and stop lights until he crashed into a car driven by a 74-year-old South Toledo man at Nebraska Avenue and Hawley Street. The man ran from the car and led police on a short foot chase before he was caught in the 900 block of Nebraska.
