2nd mother guilty in teen beer party

A second Ottawa Hills mother accused of supplying beer to more than a dozen teenagers at a party in December pleaded guilty yesterday in Lucas County Juvenile Court to two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The action occurred one day after the other mother in the case was sentenced to a three-day program for contributing offenders and fined $500.

Judge James Ray ordered a pre-sentencing investigation for Debora Kahn, 47, of 2500 Hasty Rd. A sentencing date will be scheduled once a report on the investigation is complete, said Denise Cubbon, chief juvenile prosecutor.

Conviction on the charge, a first-degree misdemeanor, is punishable by up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine on each count.

Mrs. Kahn and Victoria Krauss, 54, of 3447 Brantford Rd., were accused of overseeing a party at Mrs. Kahn's home at which 13 teenagers, some as young as 13, were allowed to drink beer.

Police said Mrs. Krauss bought the beer. She was charged with 13 counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and pleaded guilty to four counts.

Judge Ray sentenced her on Tuesday to complete the program at Comprehensive Addiction Service Systems.

Mrs. Kahn, who was charged with 11 counts of the same offense, denied she knew underage drinking was going on at the party. Her trial was scheduled to begin Monday.
