ADRIAN - A Lenawee County Circuit Court judge sentenced a 17-year-old Adrian boy to life in prison for the June 10 assault of an elderly man, who later died.

Judge Timothy Pickard sentenced Alfaunce Edwards Wednesday on charges of assault with intent to murder. Edwards also received a concurrent sentence of 17 to 60 months for unlawfully driving away a motor vehicle.

Edwards pleaded guilty to the assault in August, a court clerk said. He hit 71-year-old Henry Ballard of Raisin Township, Mich., over the head to steal his car. Mr. Ballard died Aug. 19 as a result of his injuries.
