Swanton man convicted in fatal Wood County crash

BOWLING GREEN - A Swanton man who was behind the wheel when one passenger in his car was killed and another was hurt seriously was found guilty yesterday of aggravated vehicular homicide and vehicular assault, both felonies.

Matthew Biler, 22, pleaded no contest to the amended charges in Wood County Common Pleas Court before Judge Reeve Kelsey. Biler is to be sentenced Feb. 20.

Joshua Spurgeon, 19, of Swanton was killed April 18 when the car in which he was riding went off the ramp between eastbound I-475 and northbound I-75 in Perrysburg Township and rolled down an embankment about 1:30 a.m

Another passenger, Nathan Lee Rittenbery, 20, of Swanton was left paralyzed. None of the men was wearing a seat belt.
