Six local nonprofit organizations will receive more than $3 million in federal grants for programs to help homeless people find someplace to live and become self-sufficient.
The grants are among $1 billion in U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development grants announced by President Clinton Saturday during his weekly radio address.
The grants will go to 2,633 projects in more than 350 communities nationwide to help homeless individuals and families move from temporary to permanent housing, get treatment for substance abuse, and gain access to health care, job training, and child care. Area organizations receiving grants are:
