Detroit man sent to prison for role in motel shooting

BOWLING GREEN - A Detroit man who exchanged gunfire with two men at the Days Inn motel in Perrysburg Township two years ago has been sentenced to 17 months in prison.

David Stewart, 33, pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of aggravated assault in August. Judge Charles Kurfess of Wood County Common Pleas Court sentenced him Monday.

In December, 1999, Stewart and Marcus T. Roland, 29, of Southfield, were arrested in Michigan after seeking medical treatment at Detroit Receiving Hospital. They later were linked to an incident at the Days Inn where they entered a room and exchanged gunfire with two Columbus men.

Court records show that charges against Mr. Roland were dismissed in August for evidentiary reasons.
