Ex-Liquor Control officer admits faking work log

BOWLING GREEN -- A former compliance officer with the state's Division of Liquor Control has pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of falsification for working out when his activity log said he was working.

Gerald Sandvick, 52, of Perrysburg, was placed on probation for two years and fined $1,000 and court costs by Judge Reeve Kelsey of Wood County Common Pleas Court.

Mr. Sandvick had been indicted last July on one count of theft in office, a fifth-degree felony. As part of a plea bargain, he was convicted on a misdemeanor charge of falsification.

Bill Teets, spokesman for the Ohio Department of Commerce, said yesterday that Mr. Sandvick was fired in October, but contested his termination through his union, the Fraternal Order of Police, and ultimately was allowed to resign effective Oct. 19, the date of his firing.
