Bond is set for 1 suspect in drive-by shooting

5/9/2001

Bond for a Hollywood Avenue man accused of a midday drive-by shooting of a 16-year-old boy last week was set yesterday at $150,000 on two counts of complicity to commit felonious assault.

Jermaine Tyrone Morgan, 20, of 2437 Hollywood, was arraigned in Toledo Municipal Court before Judge Denise Dartt. A preliminary hearing was set for May 22.

Mr. Morgan's attorney, Donald H. Cameron, said he was surprised by the bond: $75,000 on each count. Mr. Cameron told Judge Dartt he had talked with his client's parents Saturday.

Mr. Cameron said he was in contact with police Monday about Mr. Morgan turning himself in when he was arrested. A gang task force detective and several officers arrested Mr. Morgan as he sat in a parked car Monday afternoon.

Judge Dartt said Mr. Morgan failed numerous times to appear on misdemeanor charges outstanding against him, ranging from traffic offenses to loitering.

Mr. Morgan allegedly drove a car as it passed a park at Highland and Maplewood avenues May 2. At least one person in the vehicle opened fire, wounding Dennis Scott, who lives across the street from the park on Highland.

Police are still looking for Terrance Lamar Pitts, 22, of 2638 Maplewood, who they have accused of firing the shots.
