Development job expected for market's ex-manager

Julie Champa, who lost her job as manager of the Erie Street Market, is expected to begin working for the city's department of development on Monday.

Deborah Younger, acting director of development, said she intends to bring Ms. Champa onto her staff as long as Mayor Carty Finkbeiner gives his approval.

Ms. Younger said she wants to bring Ms. Champa on at the manager level, and would have her working on marketing, special projects, and downtown development issues.

Ms. Champa was market manager for 18 months, but was not selected to continue in the job when the public market was taken over by a nonprofit board on May 1. Candace Baldwin was hired to be the new market manager, and is to begin her duties Monday.
