A youth charged in the shooting death of a 16-year-old boy is being held in the Lucas County jail pending a hearing in Lucas County Common Pleas Court, where he will be tried as an adult in the case.

Shelton Hicks, 17, of 921 Ambia St., is charged with aggravated murder in the death of Jerome Morgan, of 2437 Hollywood Ave. Lucas County Juvenile Court Judge James Ray certified the youth to be tried as an adult during a hearing in juvenile court. Young Hicks was moved from the Lucas County Juvenile Detention Center to the jail after the hearing Friday. His next court appearance has not been scheduled.

Chief juvenile prosecutor Denise Cubbon filed a motion requesting that the teen be certified to stand trial as an adult in the shooting that occurred May 12 in the area of Lawrence Avenue and Ambia.

Young Morgan was shot once in the head and died about 4 a.m. May 13 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, where he was taken by an unidentified motorist. Young Hicks' attorney has claimed the shooting was in self-defense. Police said the shooting was gang-related.
