Appeals court overturns Texan's drug conviction

BOWLING GREEN - The conviction of a Mission, Texas, man sentenced to 10 years in prison last year in Wood County Common Pleas Court for trafficking in marijuana was reversed last week by the 6th District Court of Appeals.

Francisco Javier Ramirez, 33, was ordered released from prison by the appeals court, which ruled insufficient evidence existed that he committed the crime.

Prosecutors said Ramirez went to a Perrysburg motel in 1999 to pick up a payment for 92 pounds of marijuana. But the appeals court said no money was paid to Ramirez and that not enough evidence was presented to support last year's conviction.
