Zmuda, Escobar to attend Sister Cities conference

7/26/2001

Toledo city Councilmen Gene Zmuda and Louis Escobar are to leave today for Atlanta to attend the 2001 International Sister Cities conference this week.

They will be part of a delegation of Toledoans who will host a Toledo reception Friday night, hoping to lure delegates to Toledo for the 2002 conference.

Mr. Zmuda will attend a reception hosted by Atlanta Mayor Bill Campbell at city hall, and present him with a glass globe on behalf of Toledo council. At Toledo's reception tomorrow, Mr. Escobar will make a similar presentation to the International Sister Cities board chairman.

At the conference, members will attend sessions that include a workshop on municipal cooperation and partnership workshops on working with state municipal leagues. David Trimble, Nobel Peace Prize winner for his efforts to attain peace in Northern Ireland, will speak at the event.
