Union seeks boycott of Reynolds Road hotel

10/10/2001

The union representing 35 housekeepers, maintenance workers, and bellmen at the Quality Hotel on South Reynolds Road called for a boycott against the hotel yesterday because its members have been working without since June, 1999, without a contract.

“We're asking all the unions in the Toledo area not to hold meetings there,” said Arnie Maurer, senior business representative for the Service Employees International Union Local 47. The Toledo Area AFL-CIO said it supports such a boycott.

Hotel owner Darrell Ducat said his lodge and the Clarion Hotel-Westgate are the only unionized inns in the area and he provides better insurance than the Clarion. The Quality pays union workers $6.25 to $8 an hour.
