Salerno's extradition delayed for a week

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Convicted killer Dennis Michael Salerno's extradition from an Ohio prison was delayed for a week because the Ingham County sheriff's office did not have the staff to transport him to Michigan yesterday.

Salerno, 31, is scheduled to be moved from the Lebanon Correctional Institution to the Ingham County jail Jan. 3, said Sam Smith, assistant prosecutor. He is serving a life sentence for the murder of a Moscow, Ohio, man at a Lake Township truck stop.

In August, Salerno was charged with open murder in connection with the June, 2000, strangulation of his estranged wife, Michelle Rizzi Salerno, 26, in East Lansing.

The former Swanton woman was reported missing July 5, 2000, and her remains were found buried in a construction landfill at Bowling Green State University in April.
