Former state employee indicted on porn charge

6/29/2002

A former account executive for the Ohio Job and Family Services district office in Toledo was indicted yesterday by a Lucas County grand jury for having images of child pornography on his work computer.

Allan J. Schroeder, 54, of Indian Ridge Trail, Rossford, was indicted on one count each of unauthorized use of computer or telecommunications property, pandering obscenity involving a minor, and theft in office.

An 18-year veteran of the office, Mr. Schroeder resigned after a state technician noticed suspicious titles in the personal files of Mr. Schroeder's work computer. The computer was seized and sent to Columbus, where pornographic images, links, and cookies leading to or obtained from child porn Web sites were found. There also was information about Internet sites that wasn't pornographic, but was unrelated to state business.

Mr. Schroeder worked in the employment side of the agency and was not involved in child support or other aspects of agency business involving children.
