7/25/2002

An Old West End man was sentenced to six months in prison and five years on probation after pleading guilty in Lucas County Common Pleas Court to taking more than $32,000 from Old West End Security in 18 months.

Michael L. Stickney, 56, of 2055 Robinwood Ave. told Judge Judith Lanzinger yesterday he was sorry and had no good reason for taking the money while he was treasurer for the volunteer organization.

Old West End Security board president William Begin asked Judge Lanzinger for the maximum sentence of 18 months, saying, "He nearly put us out of business."

Judge Lanzinger ordered Stick|ney to find full-time work and repay $32,571.80 to Old West End Security upon his release from the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio. She said if Stickney misses a payment, it would be a violation of his probation, and he would have to serve the maximum 18 months.
