A 17-year-old East Toledo boy charged in the beating death of a Platt Street man was being held in the Lucas County Jail pending a hearing in Lucas County Common Pleas Court, where he will be tried as an adult in the case.

Raymond Cox, of 227 Yondota St., was charged with two counts of murder in the death of Craig Coulter, 41, of 6231/2 Platt. Lucas County Juvenile Court Judge James Ray certified the youth to be tried as an adult during a probable-cause hearing.

Young Cox was moved from the Lucas County Juvenile Detention Center to the jail after the hearing Wednesday. He is being held in lieu of $100,000 bond.

Young Cox was charged July 16, four days after Mr. Coulter was found dead in his apartment of blunt force trauma to his head. Toledo police said that on July 11 young Cox robbed and assaulted Mr. Coulter behind his residence. They said the teen was collecting a debt owed to a friend when he beat the victim with his fists and feet and took food from the man's apartment.
