Spouse accused of trying to arrange wife's death

FREMONT - A Fremont man was arraigned yesterday on a charge of trying to arrange his wife's murder.

Enrique Hinojosa, 53, pleaded not guilty to a count of conspiracy to commit aggravated murder during a hearing in Sandusky County Common Pleas Court. Judge Harry Sargeant, Jr., set bond at $50,000 and allowed Mr. Hinojosa to post 10 percent. As a condition of release, the judge confined Mr. Hinojosa to his home except for meetings with his attorney, Roger Hafford of Fremont, and doctors' appointments.

Mr. Hinojosa could be sentenced to three to 10 years in prison if convicted. An indictment issued against him Wednesday alleges that he tried to hire a hit man to kill his wife of 30 years, Kathryn Hinojosa.

Police have refused to discuss a possible motive in the case.
