Area woman among 57 rejected for state license

10/3/2002

A St. Marys woman is one of 57 people who have been notified that the state of Ohio will deny their mortgage officer applications because of conviction for a crime.

Angela D. Jacobs, who works in Lima for Mortgage Professionals, Inc., of Dayton, has a conviction for theft and thus her application will be denied, the Ohio Department of Commerce's Division of Financial Institutions said yesterday. The state said she was convicted of theft in Lima Municipal Court in 1995 under a different name, but had no specific information.

A law that went into effect in May requires loan officers who work for mortgage brokers to be licensed. But an applicant who has been convicted of theft, forgery, or other financial crimes is prohibited from getting a license, although exceptions can be made. Rejected applicants have 30 days from yesterday to request an administrative hearing.
