Grant will aid planning for Marina District

10/3/2002

The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority will receive a $15,000 grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency that will allow it to hire a consultant to suggest ways to build environmentally friendly structures on formerly polluted ground.

The port authority will use the grant for the proposed Marina District project on the East Toledo riverfront.

The grant will allow the study of storm water management, energy efficiency in new buildings, pedestrian-friendly site design, and the redevelopment of the Acme Power Plant, port authority officials said.

The grant was awarded through an EPA pilot program, Green Building on Brownfields.
