Man accused in 2 shootings indicted in '94 death

A 23-year-old Toledoan accused in the shooting deaths of two people in May was indicted by a Lucas County grand jury yesterday for killing a man eight years ago.

Prentiss Williams of 1518 Tecumseh St. was indicted on one count of aggravated murder in the shooting death of Robert Hendricks, 37, of Toledo, who was found May 27, 1994, in a suspected crack house in the 900 block of Nesslewood Avenue.

Williams, who was released from prison in April, was charged in August in the shooting of Mr. Hendricks, a city employee. Because the shooting occurred when Williams was 15, he was charged with delinquency in connection with murder. Lucas County Juvenile Court Judge James Ray certified that Williams should be tried as an adult Nov. 19.

Williams already faces capital murder charges in the May shooting deaths of Carmita Dickey and Jonathon Booker of Birckhead Place. Miss Dickey, 30, of Goodale Avenue and Damion Davis were shot May 25 while they sat in a car near Ottawa Park. Williams is charged with felonious assault and attempted murder for allegedly wounding Mr. Davis in the shooting at Torrey Hill Drive and Macomber Street.

Mr. Booker, 24, was identified by witnesses as one of the shooters. However, he was found shot to death a day later in the 1300 block of Thatcher Drive.

The shootings occurred a month after Williams was released from prison on convictions for felonious assault and receiving stolen property. Williams served six years and three months of a 6 to 15-year sentence for felonious assault and receiving stolen property. The crimes occurred in 1995 when he was 16 years old.
